Creating Independence/Decision-Making ability/ Developing Responsibility: These characteristics are reinforced for each camper by MSTERIO’s unique offer, allowing the individual to choose his/her own itinerary from the activity selections. Each day we offer more than 4 outdoor sports and indoor activities, with excellent supervision.
Lean to speak English&Japanese from bilingual and bicultural staff
24 Hours Nursing Staff: There is a nurse on staff 24 hours. A near-by hospital and doctor are also available within driving distance.
Well-trained staff members: MSTERIO offers several hours of special staff training so that they can behave properly during the camp as well as in case of emergency.
Camp Mom & Camp Dad and Camp Granma& Camp Granpa: These older adults have a great deal of life experience, are familiar with children’s social, emotional and psychological needs, and offer special support for homesickness and similar matters.
Mentor System: We have adopted a mentor system, based on an American concept now widely incorporated into schools, summer camps and work places. Each staff member has 2-3 assigned campers whom he/she checks in with on a daily basis. This provides a special support system. Each camper will have a mentor, someone to look up to and respect, with whom he or she can build a special friendship. This relationship will be different from those your child establishes with counselor and other adults at Msterio. The mentor is someone your child may talk with at any time – any place, for guidance, support, comfort or a bit of fun.
Well-Trained Counselors: Each counselor has specific areas of expertise and shares responsibility for large group activities. All counselors report to the head counselor.
Counselors in Training (CITs) and Senior Campers: In addition to having the counselors in charge of the cabins, there will also be a few Senior Campers and/or a few Counselor in Training (CIT) assigned to each cabin. They are of high school age and assist the counselors, and junior high school age help campers. After graduating as a camper, you have the choice of applying for either of these positions. Therefore, by the time you have graduated from high school, you may then be eligible to work at the camp. This gives you the possibility of having one of your first job experiences with a community that is familiar to you and your family.
Special Guests and Special Events in each day: Each evening, there is a special guest invited to give a presentation. It is totally surprise who you see and what you learn.
Farewell Party & Presentation – Last day of camp: Parents are invited! We greatly encourage you to attend this special event. You will have an opportunity to see the campers’ arts and crafts work on display and also to see a unique presentation that the campers create in teams. They rehearse every day and have a great deal of fun with the preparations as do their counselors.
